KARACHI: At least nine people lost their lives and 11 others were injured when a suspected gas explosion led to the partial collapse of a residential building in the Soldier Bazaar area of Karachi.
The incident took place at a house in Gul Rana Colony, where a powerful blast reportedly triggered the collapse. The injured and the bodies of the deceased were shifted to Civil Hospital for treatment and legal formalities.
A spokesperson for District East police said initial findings suggest the explosion was caused by a gas leak, which resulted in a section of the building caving in.
According to Rescue 1122, search and rescue efforts are still underway. An urban search and rescue team, along with a disaster response vehicle, has been deployed at the site to look for any trapped individuals.
Police and emergency responders reached the scene shortly after the explosion was reported. Authorities cordoned off the area, increased security, and launched a full-scale rescue operation.
