KARACHI: Urea sales declined sharply in the opening months of the year, with February offtake falling 28 per cent year-on-year to 250,000 tonnes, though rising 15pc compared to January.
The month-on-month improvement signals a gradual return to routine purchasing patterns after an unusually weak January, which followed heavy advance buying in December 2025, when sales had surged to 1.36 million tonnes. Despite February’s recovery, overall demand remained subdued.
Cumulative urea sales for January and February totalled 468,000 tonnes, marking a 41pc decline compared to the same period last year.
According to Muhammad Abdur Rafay of Topline Securities, discount levels remained unchanged in February. Engro Fertilizers continued to offer discounts of Rs100-150 per bag, while Fauji Fertilizer Company refrained from providing any price cuts for the second straight month.
Meanwhile, DAP sales showed improvement. February sales reached 79,000 tonnes, nearly double the 40,000 tonnes recorded in the same month last year. For the first two months of 2026, DAP offtake rose 17pc year-on-year to 118,000 tonnes. Closing DAP inventories stood at approximately 273,000 tonnes by the end of February.
Rafay expects urea sales to remain stable through 2026, supported by easing seasonal pressures and aggressive discount-driven marketing strategies.
