The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms in Karachi on Thursday, along with showers in several parts of Sindh from April 2 to 4, as a fresh westerly wave moves in from Balochistan.

According to the Met Office’s daily weather outlook issued on Tuesday, the weather system is expected to approach the southwestern parts of Balochistan on April 1 and is likely to persist until April 4.

In its three-day forecast for Karachi, the PMD said Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to remain partly cloudy.

On Tuesday, the maximum temperature is likely to range between 29°C and 31°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain around 22.7°C. Daytime humidity may reach 54 per cent, with evening humidity expected to stay between 40pc and 50pc. Westerly to southwesterly winds are also likely to prevail.

For Wednesday, temperatures are expected to rise slightly, with daytime highs between 30°C and 32°C and nighttime lows between 22°C and 24°C. Humidity levels are forecast to increase to 65pc to 75pc during the day, while evening humidity is expected to remain similar to Tuesday. Winds are likely to shift from northwesterly to west and southwesterly.

On Thursday, the weather is expected to turn mostly cloudy, with chances of gusty winds, thunderstorms and rain, including isolated heavy falls. Temperatures are likely to dip slightly, with highs between 28°C and 30°C and lows between 20°C and 22°C. Daytime humidity may rise to 70pc to 80pc.

Under the influence of the westerly wave, several districts across Sindh are also expected to receive wind, thunderstorms and rain, with moderate to isolated heavy falls and possible hailstorms.

These districts include Jamshoro, Dadu, Larkana, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Kambar Shahdadkot, Sukkur, Khairpur, Naushero Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar and Umerkot from April 2 to 4, with occasional gaps in rainfall activity.

The PMD has warned that windstorms, hailstorms and lightning may damage weak structures and standing crops. Farmers have been advised to manage their crops according to the prevailing weather conditions.

The department also noted that daytime temperatures are likely to decrease during the forecast period.

Earlier, the PMD had said that widespread rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms are expected in different parts of the country in the coming days due to the same weather system.
