LAHORE: Heavy rain and windstorms across Punjab during the last 24 hours claimed three lives and injured 17 others, rescue officials said on Wednesday.
According to Rescue 1122, two separate roof-collapse incidents in Bhakkar left one person dead and four others injured.
In Khanewal, two people were hurt after the roof of a house collapsed due to the rainfall. Meanwhile, Muzaffargarh reported two injuries in separate incidents — one caused by a roof collapse and the other by a slip during the rain.
In Sargodha, the wall of a house caved in, injuring one person and killing a livestock animal, rescue officials said.
In Taunsa, five people were injured after the shed of a hotel collapsed. Two additional roof-collapse incidents in the same district resulted in one death and two injuries.
Another fatality was reported in Toba Tek Singh, where a person died after receiving an electric shock from an electric pole. In Chiniot, one person was injured in a slip-and-fall incident.
Rescue officials said all seriously injured victims were given immediate medical assistance and shifted to nearby hospitals.
Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had forecast widespread rain and thunderstorms in northeast Balochistan, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and south Punjab for April 6 and 7.
The Met Office had also warned of possible flash floods in local nullahs and streams in northeast Balochistan, lower KP, and hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan due to heavy rainfall.
Bus overturns on M-3 motorway, 3 dead
In a separate incident, a passenger bus overturned on the M-3 motorway near Nankana, leaving three people dead and 26 others injured.
A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said that 24 of the injured are out of danger, while two passengers remain in critical condition.
The rescue operation was supervised by DIG Motorway Police Imran Shahid, along with the Sector Commander, DSP, and other officials.
All passengers were safely rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals.
Heavy machinery and cranes were used to remove the overturned bus, while the National Highways and Motorway Police maintained smooth traffic flow during the operation.
