ISLAMABAD: Former chief of army staff Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa has been admitted to a military hospital after sustaining injuries in a fall at his residence.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the development on Thursday, a day after initial reports of the incident surfaced. In a statement, the military’s media wing said the former army chief was receiving treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
According to an informed source, Bajwa slipped at his home and suffered injuries. He was subsequently shifted to the hospital’s intensive care unit. While the exact nature of his injuries was not immediately disclosed, he was said to be in stable condition.
In a video message shared on social media, Bajwa’s brother-in-law, Naeem Ghumman, said the former army chief was barefoot when he slipped and sustained a head injury. He added that medical examinations found nothing suspicious and that all necessary tests had been carried out.
Ghumman said Bajwa was now “100 per cent out of danger”.
Bajwa, 65, served as Pakistan’s 10th chief of army staff from November 29, 2016, to November 29, 2022. His tenure was extended in 2019. Since retiring in late 2022, he has largely remained out of public view.
