Sindh on Alert as New Rain Spell Forecast Across Province

KARACHI: Authorities in Sindh have been placed on high alert after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast another spell of rain between March 25 and 29.

Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah on Tuesday directed all district administrations to remain fully prepared, instructing officials to stay in the field over the next seven days.

During a high-level meeting, the Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) was asked to immediately issue a province-wide advisory, while local governments were told to ensure readiness to handle any emergency situation.

Officials have been directed to keep drainage systems fully operational, deploy machinery where needed, and take steps to maintain traffic flow during rainfall. Authorities were also told to remove unsafe billboards that could pose risks during strong winds.

The government has additionally launched plans for public awareness campaigns and instructed all departments to complete precautionary arrangements ahead of the incoming weather system.

PDMA warns of strong winds, damage risks

Following the forecast, the PDMA issued an alert warning of rain, gusty winds and possible hailstorms across several districts, including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Dadu, Kashmore, Jacobabad and Larkana.

PDMA Director General Salman Shah said authorities have been placed on standby with necessary equipment to respond swiftly to emergencies.

Officials warned that strong winds could damage weak structures and solar panels, while standing crops may also be affected. A drop in temperatures is expected during the period.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious, while farmers have been urged to take preventive steps to protect their crops.

Weather outlook

In Karachi, the PMD said conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging between 31°C and 33°C. Humidity remains high, with light northwesterly winds recorded.

The PMD has also forecast rain and thunderstorms across the country through March 30, with occasional gaps, warning of potential disruptions in multiple regions.
