Sindh on High Alert as Fresh Rain Spell Expected

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast another spell of rain across Sindh from March 25 to 29, prompting authorities to step up preparedness measures.

Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah on Tuesday directed all district administrations to remain on “high alert” and ensure readiness for possible disruptions.

During a high-level meeting, officials from across the province were instructed to stay in the field over the next week, while the Sindh Provincial Disaster Management Authority was asked to issue an immediate advisory.

Authorities have been told to ensure drainage systems are fully operational, deploy necessary machinery, and take steps to keep traffic flowing during the expected rainfall. Action has also been ordered against unsafe billboards that could pose risks amid strong winds.

The government has further directed awareness campaigns to inform the public and urged all relevant departments to complete precautionary arrangements ahead of the wet spell.

In Karachi, the PMD said weather conditions are likely to remain partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging between 31°C and 33°C. High humidity levels and light winds were also recorded.

In a broader advisory, the PMD warned of rain and thunderstorms across the country through March 30, with possible windstorms and hailstorms that could damage crops in Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Farmers have been advised to take protective measures, while travellers and tourists are urged to avoid unnecessary movement and exercise caution during the forecast period.
