Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Thursday categorically denied media reports suggesting that the government had offered any “deal” or concessions to jailed PTI founder Imran Khan.
In a statement posted on X, Tarar said there was “neither any deal nor any leniency” for the former prime minister, calling such claims “completely false and misleading.”
He maintained that Imran Khan had been convicted by courts of law and was serving his sentence accordingly. “Reports about granting him relief are baseless. There is no truth to these claims,” he added.
Imran, who has been incarcerated since August 2023, is currently serving a 14-year sentence at Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail in the £190 million corruption case. He was also convicted in a separate case involving state gifts and faces additional trials under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the May 9, 2023 protests.
Earlier this week, Parliamentary Secretary Danyal Chaudhry also rejected speculation of a deal, alleging that Imran had sought concessions from the outset. He said the government was open to dialogue but would not bow to pressure.
Chaudhry added that sending Imran abroad for medical treatment would only be considered in the event of a life-threatening condition that could not be treated domestically. His remarks followed concerns raised by the PTI regarding Imran’s health, after a report submitted to the Supreme Court quoted him as saying he had suffered partial vision loss in his right eye.
In January 2026, then-prime ministerial adviser on political affairs Rana Sanaullah had also stated that while some PTI leaders were interested in dialogue with the government, Imran himself was opposed to negotiations.
