Rain, Thunderstorms Expected in Karachi and Sindh: PMD

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms in Karachi and several parts of Sindh on Saturday, as a westerly weather system continues to influence the region.

In its latest three-day outlook issued الجمعة, the PMD said light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely, driven by a westerly wave entering the country عبر southwestern Balochistan.

For Friday, Karachi is expected to remain mostly sunny, with temperatures ranging between 32–34°C during the day and dipping to around 24°C at night. Humidity levels may peak at 76% before easing later in the evening, while winds are likely to shift from northwesterly to west or southwesterly.

On Saturday, conditions are expected to turn partly cloudy, with chances of isolated thunderstorms or light rain. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, with highs of 31–33°C and lows between 22–24°C. Humidity is projected to stay relatively high during the day, ranging from 75–85%.

By Sunday, rainfall is unlikely, though mostly cloudy skies could slightly lower daytime temperatures to around 30–32°C. Humidity levels are also expected to drop compared to the previous day, with steady west to southwesterly winds prevailing.

The PMD has also predicted rain in several Sindh districts, including Jamshoro, Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Sukkur, Ghotki, Badin, Umerkot, and Tharparkar.

Authorities have warned that thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible hail may damage weak structures such as बिजली کے کھمبے, billboards, and solar panels. Farmers have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect standing crops.

Earlier this week, the PMD had indicated that a broader weather system could bring intermittent rainfall across the country between March 24 and 30. Last week, severe thunderstorms in Karachi resulted in 20 fatalities and left eight others injured, according to police reports.
