Mohsin Naqvi Holds Talks with Chinese Envoy on Security and Counter-Terrorism in Islamabad

Mohsin Naqvi met with Jiang Zedong at the Chinese Embassy on Friday to discuss counter-terrorism, security cooperation, and the Police Exchange Programme.

The Interior Ministry of Pakistan shared on social media that Naqvi was warmly received at the embassy in Islamabad’s Diplomatic Enclave. The meeting also covered the broader regional situation.

During the discussions, both sides agreed to organize a business conference addressing security concerns of Chinese investors in Pakistan. The initiative will take place in two phases: the first focusing on Chinese businesses already operating in Pakistan, and the second on prospective investors.

Naqvi also announced the establishment of a Special Protection Unit to safeguard foreign nationals, specifically Chinese citizens in Islamabad. Officials of the unit will undergo training, including learning the Chinese language, to enhance their effectiveness, according to Mushtaq Cheema.

This engagement follows Ambassador Jiang’s meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the PM House on Thursday, which included discussions with Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi, and the foreign secretary. PM Shehbaz emphasized Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional de-escalation and stability amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

Earlier in the week, Chinese Consul General Sun Yan met with Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi to review law and order in Punjab, with particular attention to the security of Chinese nationals working in the province.
