Noreen Khanum, sister of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan, has said that his right eye condition is improving, citing findings from an initial medical assessment.
Earlier this month, Imran had claimed that vision in his right eye had reduced to 15 per cent, prompting the Supreme Court of Pakistan to order the formation of a medical team to examine him before February 16.
On Sunday, a team of doctors conducted an eye examination at Adiala Jail, remaining inside for about an hour, according to sources.
In a post on X, Noreen confirmed that the examination had taken place and stated that no major complications had been detected so far. She added that swelling around his eye had subsided and his vision had shown signs of improvement.
Providing details of the procedure, she said medical equipment including a slit lamp, an OCT scan machine and a fully equipped ambulance were brought to the jail for the assessment.
The examination was carried out by Dr Arif from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr Nadeem Qureshi from the Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital within the jail premises. Their findings were later shared with senior doctors, including Dr Asim Yousuf and Dr Mirza, who joined via conference call. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was also kept informed of the developments.
However, Noreen noted that doctors at Shifa International Hospital remain cautious. She said that although it had previously been indicated that Imran would be shifted to Shifa for further care, the transfer did not take place.
She further revealed that retina specialists at the hospital, including Dr Aamir Awan, remained on standby until late at night, but the former prime minister was ultimately not moved from jail.
