KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast partly cloudy weather in Karachi on Monday, with chances of thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall.
According to its daily weather advisory, a westerly weather system is currently affecting the southwestern regions of the country, influencing weather conditions across Sindh, including Karachi.
The PMD said the maximum temperature in the city is expected to remain between 29°C and 31°C, while the minimum temperature may drop to 22.3°C.
The department further stated that weather conditions in Karachi are likely to remain mostly sunny with occasional winds on Tuesday, followed by mostly sunny skies on Wednesday.
Under the influence of the westerly wave, wind-thunderstorms and rainfall, including a few moderate showers and isolated heavy falls or hailstorms, are expected today in Sukkur, Kashmore, and Ghotki districts.
Light to moderate thunderstorms and rain are also likely in Karachi Division and several other districts, including Jamshoro, Dadu, Qamber Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal.
A day earlier, the PMD had predicted widespread rain and thunderstorms in northeast Balochistan, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, south Punjab, and parts of Sindh for Monday.
The recent spell of severe weather has caused significant damage in multiple provinces.
Since March 20, continuous rain and flooding in Balochistan have claimed nine lives, while strong winds and heavy rain led to structural collapses in Punjab on Saturday, killing two people.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at least 45 people have died and 106 others have been injured in rain-related incidents since March 25, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority, as reported by state-run Radio Pakistan.
Karachi also witnessed heavy rainfall on April 2, which resulted in six deaths across the city.
The previous rain spell across Sindh also saw several cities record historic weather extremes for April, including unusually heavy rainfall and the lowest night and daytime temperatures for the month.
According to PMD data, Karachi received 38.7 millimetres of rain within 24 hours on Thursday, marking the heaviest rainfall ever recorded in the city during April.
