Pakistan Invited to Take Part in Upcoming US–Iran Talks: FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has been invited to participate in forthcoming talks between Iran and the United States aimed at easing tensions between the two countries, the Foreign Office confirmed on Tuesday.

Responding to a query, FO spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Islamabad had received a formal invitation to join the negotiations.

A diplomatic source told Dawn that Pakistan’s involvement is being viewed as important to de-escalation efforts, noting that Islamabad has been quietly facilitating dialogue between Tehran and Washington.

According to the source, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is expected to take part in the meeting.

An Arab official, speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, said the talks are likely to be held in Turkiye on Friday due to the sensitivity of the matter.

Meanwhile, US outlet Axios reported — citing two unnamed sources and a US official — that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to meet US envoy Steve Witkoff in Istanbul to discuss a possible agreement on Iran’s nuclear programme.
